Privacy Policy

This policy explains what SideCar collects when you use www.ride-sidecar.com and what we do with it. SideCar is a project operated by Kailee Frankel in Santa Barbara, California ("SideCar," "we," "us").

Right now this website does one thing: it lets you join a waitlist. This policy covers that. When the app launches we'll publish a longer policy covering rides, payments, and identity verification, and we'll tell you before it takes effect.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, you give us:

• Your name. So we can address you like a person when we email you.
• Your gender. We ask because riders and drivers are getting into cars together, and knowing the makeup of our early group helps us build matching and safety features that actually work. You can write in your own answer instead of picking from the list.
• Your UCSB email address. We use it to verify you're a student and to email you when your route opens.
• Whether you'd mostly be a rider, a driver, or both. This tells us who to onboard first.
• Your hometown. This tells us which routes to open first.

When you email us at hi@ride-sidecar.com, we get whatever you put in that email.

We also collect basic technical information automatically, the way nearly every website does: your IP address, browser type, the pages you looked at, and how you got here. This is used to understand whether the site is working and where visitors come from.

What we do not collect

• We do not ask for your phone number, your address, your date of birth, or any government ID on this website.
• We do not collect payment information. There is nothing to pay for yet.
• We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers.
• We do not run third-party advertising pixels on this site.

How we use it

• Confirm you're a UCSB student
• Email you when SideCar opens for your route
• Decide which routes and which side of the market to launch first
• Answer you if you contacted us

That's the whole list. We will not sell your information, and we will not rent or share your email address with other companies for their own marketing.

Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

• Netlify, which hosts the website and receives waitlist form submissions
• Namecheap Private Email, which hosts the mailbox we email you from
• Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page visits for us. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other websites.

We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, for example in response to a valid subpoena or court order.

Cookies

This site does not use cookies for tracking or advertising, and our analytics do not use cookies either. Nothing on this site follows you around the internet. The site may set a cookie strictly necessary to make the page work.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist entries until you ask us to delete them, or until we've been unable to reach you and the waitlist is clearly stale, whichever comes first. Emails you send us are kept as long as we need them to handle your question.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Use it and we stop emailing you.
• Delete your data. Email hi@ride-sidecar.com and ask. We'll remove you from the waitlist and confirm when it's done.
• See what we have. Email hi@ride-sidecar.com and ask, and we'll tell you what's on file for you.

If you live in California, state law gives residents rights to know what personal information a business collects, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for asking. We'll honor those requests from anyone who asks, whether or not the law currently requires us to.

Students under 18

Some incoming students are 17. If you're under 18, you can join the waitlist, but do not send us anything beyond what the form asks for. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hi@ride-sidecar.com and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant and you're on the waitlist, we'll email you about it rather than quietly swapping the page.
